James D. Harnden - President
Since Ram Harnden’s foundation in 1985, the firm’s
focus has been on the sale and leasing of office, retail,
industrial and investment grade apartments. On behalf of
his clients, Jim has been involved in a myriad of transaction
types, including lease renewals, consolidations, relocation,
build-to-suit developments, speculative development lease-up
and dispositions.
Prior to founding Ram Harnden, he was a senior client
marketing representative with the Saddlebrook Corporation.
Saddlebrook developed loan origination and financial planning
and control systems for the thrift industry. In the early
1980s, Saddlebrook was one of the largest distributors
of Digital Equipment Corporation’s hardware in the
country. Jim was the top national producer in 1983.
Under Jim’s leadership, Ram Harnden has become a
leading commercial real estate firm in the Greater Portland
area. The firm is known for its annual newsletter providing
the market with current, accurate data including absorption
rates, vacancy rates, rental rates, and new construction
information for the downtown and suburban markets. In addition,
Ram Harnden developed its own inventory database for Greater
Portland. This database tracks the availability of Class
A and B office space and higher quality industrial space
as well as operating costs, real estate taxes and asking
rates.
Jim is currently serving as a Board Member of Maine & Company, Piper Shores, Morrison Developmental Center, The Cumberland Club and The Portland Regional Chamber of Commerce. He is a past President of the Portland Chamber of Commerce and a Fellow of the Institute for Civic Leadership, President of Portland’s Downtown District and past Board Member of Intown Portland Exchange and the Maine Real Estate Development Association (MEREDA). He received his bachelor’s degree from the University of New Hampshire, majoring in business administration with a minor in real estate. |
